I’m going 2 Hawaii in late September. Can I find hotels when I get there, or should I book them ahead of time?

RKH asked:

I want to explore as much as possible, with no schedule.

For sure you need to book ahead – why take a chance and have to spend your time looking for a place when you could already have one and be on the beach with a MaiTai in your hand?!

    Have a great time! :)

You do not say which Island or Islands you plan to visit.
But I would highly suggest you make some sort of reservation, even if only for the first night, then you can look.
But I think if you go on line to any web site which books Hawaii, you will find rooms are hard to find in lower price

UHHH…. I don’t suggest that. What if everywhere decent is booked? And your stuck in a total dive??? Or what if everywhere IS booked and your exploring your capacity to bake in the sun after waking up from camping on the beach??? Or what if there are rooms, but they’re super $$$ last minute? OK I think you get the point…

My advice is clear—book ahead of time!! Most hotels will give 24hr cancellation period or less–unless you plan on booking through priceline or some similarly deeply discounted rate.

If I was you, I’d figure out what Island to go too and work from there. Do you know that you want 2 days on Maui and 2 days on Kaui? You’ll also need airfare for island hopping…. :) some structure is good

its cheaper if you book ahead, and not all hotels have vacancy all the time, sobook ahead to insure that you will be in a nice place

Why go to Hawaii? Beautiful land……..ugly, hateful people. Hawaii is full of bigots and racists. It is the most ****** state in the U.S. If you’re white, go somewhere else. They don’t like “haoles” in Hawaii…..only your money. All you’ll get is attitude and stink-eye from the locals. Where else can you go where they have “kill haole” days at school, the favorite local pastime is going to tourist areas and “f***ing with some haoles” and you can see bumper stickers on cars that say “haole, the other white meat” and “brown skin hui”, which would be akin to saying “white skin klan”. All they ever do is whine about how we “stole their aina”, a lie perpetuated by the sovereignty instigators. Might as well call it Ha-wah-wah-wah-ii.

Go to Mexico or Puerto Rico. They are just as beautiful and the people actually like you. Well, okay, they may **** you, but only because you’re stupid not because you’re white. Leave Hawaii to the Hawaiians, Filipinos and Portuguese, they’ll never make it anywhere else.

Oh, and by the way, it’s not “haole”…….it’s “F***in’ haole”

Book ahead……..otherwise you may get stuck staying at a hotel that
    1. cost too much
    2. is in a bad location
    3. too far from where the action is.

*For activities – pick up a “this week in Oahu” found on nearly every corner. Great deals on tons of activities found in these.
    Aloha !

What happened to you RELIC? Just last month your answers to questions about Hawaii were full of insight, valuable information and objective – never personal as they are now.

You DEFINITELY need to book ahead when traveling to Hawaii. If you think prices seem outrageous now…just wait until you’re standing at a desk trying to get a room. Not only that, most places book up months in advance. You’d be crazy to wait until you got here.
