How much cash should I bring on my 2 week honeymoon?

We are going to be in Hawaii (Oahu and Maui) for a week, and then the Mayan Riviera in Mexico for the second week. Mexican hotel is all inclusive, even tours and snorkeling and such, so I doubt we’ll need much cash there. Is $1,000 enough for a week in Hawaii? We’re definitely going to be charging nice dinners out, entertainment, and souvenirs on our credit cards. So basically we would probably only use cash for cabs, tips, breakfasts, lunches and such. We’re very well traveled but have never been to Hawaii and I hear everything is super expensive there. I also don’t want to pay overage fees for ATM usage, and don’t know if there’s a lot of branches of my bank there so would rather have the cash up front.

How expensive Hawaii is depends on where you’re from. I’m from NY and my husband and I didn’t find Hawaii that much more expensive and was quite comparable to NY prices. $1,000 should do if you plan on charging most meals and entertainment and souvenirs. If you do a little bit of pre-planning you can find great cheap places to eat to minimize spending–eat like the locals and you’ll find the best meals at the best prices.

Probably 1k if you are planning to buy souvenirs or food. Don’t bring too much because when traveling to Mexico things like that can easily be stolen.

Just some ideas, last year when I was in Hawaii I paid the following:
$8 for a hamburger, no fries
$6 for a 16oz cup of coffee
$3.32 for a gallon of gas
$4 for an ice cream cone, 2 scoops
80% of Hawaii’s food products are imported so you will pay a little more for food, but like the first poster said, it is not too far from NYC prices or LA prices, think along the lines of airport pricing, a little more because there is demand and no alternative.
As for just using cash for tips, cabs, breakfast and lunch you should be okay with $1k.
