Pest control in Trafford, Manchester and Cheshire 2010
Pest Control in Lancashire, Manchester and Cheshire has seen a brisk in 2010 which is somewhat surprising given the somewhat cold winter of 2009/10.
Pest and Vermin controllers were kept occupied with the usual town centre rat calls during the winter of 2009/10, but the relatively cold early part of the year has already seen ant infestation coming in.
The damp summers of 2008 and 2009 were not to the liking of the hymenoptera (bees, ants, sawflies and wasps) but 2010 looks like it will be a busy year for ant calls.
Regularly ants nest under the floors of homes and inside cavity walls causing a large number of foraging ants to visit kitchens and food cupboards.
However it is at the annual mating time when they can be most distressing as they release winged queens and males which then mate in flight.
The emergence of several thousands of these flying ants inside your house can be traumatic indeed.
A fairly new pest was quite numerous in the Cheshire, Lancashire and Manchester area last year, the Varied Carpet Beetle (Anthrenus verbasci).
It was rare for pest controllers in Cheshire, Lancashire and Manchester to encounter these pests until lately but they seemed to arrive from nowhere in 2008 and already this spring has seen reports of varied carpet beetle in substantial numbers.
These beetles have a similar life cycle to moths their larvae, called woolly bears can eat natural fibres and can do great damage to carpets and natural fabrics. They can be a difficult and persistent pest to get rid of.
Bed Bugs are carrying on their come back in the Lancashire, Manchester and Cheshire area, regularly arriving as stowaways in the suitcases of home-coming holiday makers.
Very often the first reaction of unfortunate people who realise that they have been infested with these horrible,blood-sucking insects is to get rid of the old beds and purchase.
This is an expensive mistake as despite their name bed bugs not only stay in beds and in an infested room will be found everywhere within up to fifteen feet of the bed, in cupboards, drawers etc, even in electrical wall sockets and the new beds are rapidly re-infested.
Many people mix up bed bugs with dust mites which are not visible to the naked eye.
They dine only on blood which they take from their sleeping hosts. People often associate bed bugs with insanitary conditions but nothing could be further from the truth, they do not require grime, they dine on you!
